Primary Goals of Internet Local Search Users26% of those using local search to find a business are seeking the name and address of the business and 21% are seeking driving directions. An additional 21% were seeking a business that has the product or service that they needed – at that moment.

This highlights the importance of having a local search strategy. Being able to put your name, address and driving directions in front of persons searching for the exact product or service you offer at the very time they need it is a golden opportunity.

31% of those searching Internet Yellow Pages were looking for the phone number of a business and 29% were seeking a business that has the product or service the need. One stat I’d love to see (because I’ve done this myself) is how many persons find a business in Internet Yellow Pages, then click on the link to their website or then Google or Bing the website once they have the name of the business.

The point here is that taking care of your local online marketing will take care of you. If you want to grab that large and growing slice of your market that uses online local search, you need to be sure that searchers will find you when their need matches your ability to supply.

For example, if you sell blue widgets in Danville, Kentucky, you’d better have a web page about blue widgets in Danville, KY. You can have a page with just widgets with color choices if you sell more than one color. But when someone searches for “Blue widgets Danville KY” you stand a much better chance of coming up #1 if you have a page for that specifically. And your goal is to appear at least once in the top 10 for each product or service.

There are a few ways to accomplish this. You can blog about every product or service you have, mentioning the city name or you can build web pages for each product or service and locale. There are others, but these are two simple and powerful ones.

If you use this strategy, you will dominate your local market listings and have a chance for a sale every time someone does a local search in your area of expertise.
