I’m sure I am not just speaking for myself when I say there have times when I chose either path. The fundamental problem with letting things happen is that if your don’t make the choices, some else will. And other’s choices are seldom in our best interest. When it comes to making decisions regarding the promotion or marketing of your business, letting it happen is just not a viable option. If you don’t make the choice to control the market’s perception of your business, no one else will. That leaves a vacuum in the positive perception of your business and that vacuum is often filled by the voices of those who have something to complain about, no matter how small a proportion of your customer base that might be. You don’t have the luxury of being able to allow those negative voices to spearhead the conversation about your business… at last not if you want to stay in business for the long run. Social networking is not [...]

From a post at: Dominate Your Local Market! - Local Business Marketing Strategies for WordPress, Facebook, Twitter and more

That’s all well and good, but there’s a number that is far more important to you and me. That number is 5% – as in the 5% of the people that will actually take an action to improve their position in life. Let’s face it. That 5% number holds up throughout life, education, business, career, etc. And that 5% will always have more of everything simply because they are more willing to put in the effort to get it. Yes, luck plays a major role in our life’s journey, but luck seems to shine more on those who are making the effort. So the real question here is – which group do you belong to? The 5% or the 95%? I have a little test for you to see which group you belong to. And it is important to make the decision because as we move into 2012, I am going to make an even more intensive effort to help the 5% who will put the information, products and services I offer to good use. In the next few days, you will receive an invitation in [...]

From a post at: Dominate Your Local Market! - Local Business Marketing Strategies for WordPress, Facebook, Twitter and more

In the world of marketing your product or service, there is similarly no try – you either do what it takes – or you don’t. Three things you absolutely MUST have in 2012 if you are to thrive and prosper in the new economic reality: Have an up-to-date website. Your business puts meals on your table, a roof over your head and provides all the things you and your family need to thrive in life. Neglecting one of the most essential marketing tools your business has would be a shameful misuse of resources. If your website is over 2 years old, you need to consider an update. We’ll be talking a lot about that in 2012, but you’ll have to be a subscriber to our new newsletter to get the very best information. Have a Facebook Fan Page. If you don’t have a Facebook Fan Page now, you will need one to prosper in 2012 – no ifs, ands or buts about it. Websites need SEO (Search Engine Optimization) to succeed, Facebook Fan pages [...]

From a post at: Dominate Your Local Market! - Local Business Marketing Strategies for WordPress, Facebook, Twitter and more

Don’t forget to take a few minutes today to remember those who’ve laid down their lives so that we can live free and thank those who serve today. This post originally appeared on Memorial Day in 2009. I thought it would make a great subject again today. “Are you having enough SALES CONVERSATIONS? If you don’t have all the business or clients that you want, maybe you simply need to have more sales conversations. That was a challenge I laid down to my Marketing Mastermind group last month, and one couple jumped to action with IMMEDIATE results.” That bit of advice came to me from Bernadette Doyle of ClientMagnets.com. Although Bernadette was talking about direct face-to-face selling of services, I couldn’t help but think how it applies to what we do. When a local business posts an update to their blog, comments on Facebook or Twitter or sends an email update to their list, they are having a “sales conversation” with their market even if they aren’t overtly selling. That’s because all of us like to do business with those we know, like and trust. The process of relationship building is helped along each time we [...]

From a post at: Dominate Your Local Market! - Local Business Marketing Strategies for WordPress, Facebook, Twitter and more
