Combined Web and Email Hosting? Bad Idea?

Hosting
What does email mean to your business? For as long as there has been web hosting there has been email hosting packaged with it. It is free, convenient and a bad idea. I've been using combined web and email hosting since 1996 and it took me this long to figure out just how bad of an idea it really is. If you have any kind of email volume and use combined hosting, I'm sure you've had times when your email server refused to respond, asked repeatedly for the password that you knew was correct or failed to deliver an email you had been waiting for. And despite promises of 99% plus uptime, all web hosts have times where their service goes down - and your email goes with it. Additionally,…

Choosing the right email service provider – no, not GMail

Choosing the right email service provider – no, not GMail

Email Marketing
Picking the right email service provider can be an asset to your business and save you a lot of grief in the future. GMail is a wonderful service - for your personal email. Email Marketing, Local Marketing, Social Networking
Happy Memorial Day, everyone. Don't forget to take a few minutes today to remember those who've laid down their lives so that we can live free and thank those who serve today. This post originally appeared on Memorial Day in 2009. I thought it would make a great subject again today. “Are you having enough SALES CONVERSATIONS? If you don’t have all the business or clients that you want, maybe you simply need to have more sales conversations. That was a challenge I laid down to my Marketing Mastermind group last month, and one couple jumped to action with IMMEDIATE results.” That bit of advice came to me from Bernadette Doyle of ClientMagnets.com. Although Bernadette was talking about direct face-to-face selling of services, I couldn't help but think how it…

Blekko local search seems to be lacking

SEO
I always like to test new things, especially if they look interesting and may prove to have an impact of my clients. There's a new search engine in town. It's not the first challenger to Google's supremacy, but it may be one of the more interesting ones. According to their About Us page, "Blekko is a better way to search the web by using slashtags. slashtags search only the sites you want and cut out the spam sites. use friends, experts, community or your own slashtags to slash in what you want and slash out what you don't." Blekko has some interesting features. Theoretically, using what they call "slashtags" you should be able to narrow your search to results that are only of interest to you. Each result has a…
